Jacksonville State University is making major advances in its athletic programs. By joining the Ohio Valley Conference in the fall of 2003, all sports are now in the same conference. Our aim is to provide first-class facilities to our student-athletes consistent with expectations of a NCAA Division I program. Excellencies in athletics begins with pride – pride in the program, pride in the University, pride in accomplishments. New athletic faculties with expanded resources, tools, and equipment will help to inspire our student-athletes to high achievement in sports and academics.

Expansion Plans

Refurbished athletic facilities with expanded resources, tools, equipment, and space will help to inspire our student-athletes to high achievement in sports and academics.

The newly renovated and upgraded Field House completed in 2005 provides first-class facilities to student-athletes consistent with expectations of a NCAA Division I program. The field house was constructed in 1977 to support a Division II program that was in existence. The renovated field house offers a two level facility expanding coach’s offices, study areas, locker and equipment rooms, a meeting/communication center, enhanced training rooms, and a rehabilitation and therapy facility. With technological advances like that of a state-of-the-art media room, the renovation enables the athletic staff to better recruit, train, and prepare student-athletes for challenges on the playing field and in the classroom.

Program Background

Jacksonville State University is making promising advances in its athletic programs. As a Division II school, Jacksonville State won six National Championships, making it the only school to have won a national championship in baseball, basketball, and football.  The Athletic Department is now is its 10th year as a Division I school.

By joining the Ohio Valley Conference in the fall of 2003, all sports were placed in the same conference demanding the athletic program at Jacksonville State to face more challenging competitors.  The need to recruit top athletes in the region presents the expectation of top quality athletic facilities with the latest upgrades in strengthening and conditioning equipment.  The Athletic Department strives to maintain a strong program, a sound fiscal plan, a solid fan base, and a reliable core of financial supporters.  The expansion project will fund the facilities required to make Jacksonville State athletics competitive at the level the university deserves.

The Athletic Department at Jacksonville State has a long history of offering athletic events for the surrounding community.  Jacksonville State hosts the Northeast regional High School Basketball Tournament well as the Calhoun County Track Meet drawing over 25,000 people for a week of sporting activity.  These types of events bring regional awareness to the offerings of Jacksonville State providing a valuable student recruitment tool. The renovation of the Field House will provide a comprehensive athletic complex for the citizens of northeast Alabama to look upon with pride. For Jacksonville State to expect the very best of its student athletes, we must provide the very best in facilities.

The construction and renovation of the multi-purpose building enhances the Athletic programs at Jacksonville State University.  The refurbishment of the existing building  allows the University to provide a state of the art weight room for it's athletes and furnish practice and competition area for the sports currently sharing with academics and recreational sports in Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The new building constructed on the site of the old Jacksonville High School, houses the Athletic Administration Staff, athletic academic advisement, JSU ticket office, sports: baseball, men's an women's golf, softball and volleyball.
