Support for the endowment of student scholarships will offer the brightest students from around the world the opportunity to join in the unique opportunity of experiment life in the International House. Through a foundation established in the 1950’s, Jacksonville State offers full scholarships to foreign exchange students, making the International House a leader in bringing foreign culture and ideas to a campus setting. Founded in 1946 by Dr. James Jones, the International House was originally conceived as a cultural and linguistic exchange project. The first students were exclusively from France. However, under the leadership of Dr. Jones, and with the added vision of subsequent International House and Jacksonville State leaders, the programs evolved into a unique and valuable experience of sharing languages, lives, and cultures.
Today, forty students – 20 from other countries and 20 American students – reside in the International House to bring to life the idea of a global community. The House promotes diversity and global understanding to Calhoun County and the entire Northeastern region. Recently remodeled, the house also serves as a warm and inviting location to hosts speakers and visitors from around the world.
