Q. What is the “Power of 125…Join The Celebration!” campaign?
A. It is a long range five year comprehensive initiative to raise $25 million dollars for Jacksonville State University. Through the Power of 125 campaign, we will reinforce our curricula, strengthen support for faculty and students, and provide the facilities necessary to be a leading intellectual resource in Northeast Alabama.
Q. Why does Jacksonville State University need money?
A. Jacksonville State receives less than 40% assistance from the State of Alabama and must look to private funds to promote programs, build new facilities and assist in academic endeavors to be competitive with other universities and provide quality education.
Q. Why are outright gifts important?
A. Gifts of cash are especially advantageous to the University because they can be put to use immediately. Outright gifts can be cash, credit card charges and appreciated securities (shares of stock or mutual funds). Cash gifts can be pledged over a five year period and paid monthly, quarterly or annually according to the donor’s preferences.
Q. Why is Planned Giving Advantageous?
A. There are a number of ways that a donor can make a sizable future gift to JSU Foundation while enjoying increased income and reduced taxes. Planned gifts are arrangements that have specific tax advantages and often include lifetime income to a beneficiary(ies) named by the donor. A planned gift can maximize your giving potential and can even allow you to ensure your financial future or that of a loved one. Gifts can be made of cash, securities, bonds, real estate, or personal property. It is important that you seek legal and tax counsel, where appropriate.
Q. Will I also be asked to give to the Annual Fund?
A. Yes. During the capital campaign, your contribution to the annual fund remains important. The University relies on annual gifts to provide added resources in support of its faculty each year. Both annual and capital campaign giving are crucial to the quality of education and financial health of the University.
Q. Will there be public recognition for my gift?
A. Recognition comes in several different forms. Campaign contributions will be recognized in various publications such as the JSU News Digest, Campaign Newsletter, Gem of the Hills and the Campaign Web Site. Certain significant gifts that are designated by the donor to specific departments or facilities may be named in your honor, or to honor others of your choice, subject to the approval of the President and the Board of Trustees. The campaign staff can provide information in this regard.
