JSU's Public Announcement Gala! 

Jacksonville State University officially marked the beginning of the public phase of the Power of 125...Join the Celebration capital campaign -- which already has raised more than 68 percent of the goal in less than half the allotted time -- during the April 8, 2006 gala to celebrate early success.

Bob and Lou Kennamer Hall Dedication

President Bill Meehan, far left, and Mr. Jim Bennett, second from left, chairman of the board of trustees, led open-house ceremonies at Jacksonville State University's new Bob and Lou Kennamer Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Kennamer look on as Dr. Meehan reads the resolution dedicating the building. The new athletics building was named in honor of the couple who have long supported JSU with immense generosity. Kennamer Hall houses the offices of the athletics program administration, which includes the athletics director, ticket office, and sports information. Also included are coaches' offices for the teams of baseball, volleyball, golf, and softball, as well as the softball locker room, the Stewart Center for Strength and Conditioning, and a multi-purpose gymnasium. The dedication ceremony was held April 18, 2005.

Recent Gifts

F. Ray and Jimmie Nell Miller from Pell City, AL announced in December 2007 a $250,000 commitment to Jacksonville State University’s College of Commerce and Business Administration. Miller, a JSU graduate earned his bachelor’s degree in 1963 majoring in Business Administration.  The Miller’s $250,000 gift will provide an endowment to help the business school attract qualified faculty into its ranks.

Mrs. Margaret Wilson honors her late husband Mr. P.O. Wilson by creating the most prestigious scholarship ever offered at Jacksonville State University. The P.O. and Margaret Wilson Achievement Scholarship provides the full cost of tuition, room, books, meals, fees and study abroad and is valued today at approximately $60,000 over the selected students’ four years of study.  The scholarship will be awarded to one student every four years and the recipient will be known as the “Wilson Scholar.” The first Wilson Scholar will be selected in March 2008 for study beginning in the fall of 2008. Applications are available at the university website www.jsu.edu. The deadline for submission of this and other JSU scholarships is February 1, 2008.

Mrs. Catherine Peacock recently made a wonderful contribution of $300,000 to endow the Bill and Catherine Peacock Scholarship for students in the College of Education and Professional Studies who plan to enter the field of teaching. Mrs. Peacock was thrilled to have the opportunity to create the scholarship in honor of her and Bill’s time at JSU. “We had such a great life being able to teach and feel that we earned a great education at JSU. I wanted to be able to provide the same opportunities for students today to earn their degree in education from such a great institution.”

 AmSouth Bank Foundation pledged $250,000 to the College of Education and Professional Studies in support of the renovation of Ramona Wood Hall and construction of an education wing.

Jack Crowe, head football coach, pledged $25,000 to the technology advancement initiative of the capital campaign. The Technology Advancement project will allow the university to provide students as well as faculty and staff access to state-of-the-art educational technologies.

Jenkins, Munroe, Jenkins Architect Firm in Anniston, Alabama has pledged $1M towards the performance hall at the future Center for Musical Arts facility. The hall will be named the Julian & Anita Jenkins Performance Center.

Donald Stewart from Anniston, Alabama, has pledged $204,000 for furnishing the weights in the newly constructed Athletic Multi-Purpose facility. The William Taylor Stewart Strength & Conditioning Center is named in honor of his son Taylor Stewart (’99). Donald has a law firm in Anniston.

Marc (‘82) and Mary (’88) Angle from Plano, Texas have pledged $100,000 for a student scholarship in Athletics. Marc played baseball for JSU and is currently a banking executive in Dallas, Texas.

Alabama Power Foundation has pledged $500,000 to JSU! $250,000 was contributed to the Fund for Excellence and $250,000 towards Professorships and Chairs.

Wachovia has pledged $250,000 towards an Endowed Professorship in the College of Business.

Jim Coxwell (’61) from Marietta, Georgia has pledged $400,000 to the Athletic Department, specifically for the Reception Hall at the renovated Football Field House. Jim played football at JSU, is a former past J-Club President and Foundation Board Member. He and his wife, Sandra are the owners of the Longleaf Lodge at McClellan in Anniston.
